Life is a Continuous Learning Experience

Updated: Mar 9

“Let us remember: One book, one pen, one child and one teacher can change the world.” – Malala Yousafzai

Life is a continuous learning experience. As children and adolescents begin to make their way back to school for the 2023-2024 academic year, it is completely normal for them to feel excited to start again and worried about what the new year will bring. And if we’re honest, the idea of children going back to school produces the same feelings for their parents. There is a mix of emotions as we move through the growth of our children. We might feel proud, sad, joyous, and just a little afraid. And that’s because we know how fleeting childhood is and how much change can occur in nine short months.

At The Personal Wellness Center, we created the School-Based Program to help youth and families navigate the complexities of growing up and changing. This program provides in-school therapy services to children and adolescents but also provides family therapy, educational opportunities, parenting classes, and other support offerings, both at the Center and in the community. Offering services during the school day allows our clinicians an opportunity to support students in real-time, allows us to speak to teachers and school social workers, and creates a necessary bridge between school, home, and community. The School-Based Program works collaboratively with our Office-Based Program, Blooming Lotus Project, and Intensive Family Services Program to bring the best supportive care to youth and families available on the Shore.

The School-Based Program has providers in Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset Counties with community reach into Sussex County, Delaware. We are so grateful to be able to serve the community in this way. It allows us the opportunity to redefine wellness in a variety of settings. That is an honor and privilege – to be in the service of families.
